Born in Wigan, Owen Andrew Farrell began playing rugby league at the age of eight for Wigan St Patricks. When his father Andy Farrell signed for Saracens in 2005, his family moved to Harpenden, where
He held the record of youngest ever player to appear in English professional rugby union after playing for Saracens 11 days after his 17th birthday, in a 26–17 home defeat against Llanelli Scarlets in the EDF Energy Cup on 5 October 2008, until this record was broken in November 2009 by Leicester's George Ford.
He represented England at U16, as captain, U17 and U18 and was part of the England U20 team that won the Grand Slam in 2011 and reached the IRB Junior World Cup final.
That final in Italy, against New Zealand, came just a month after Farrell scored 17 points in Saracens 22-17 won over Leicester Tigers in the Premiership final.
Owen and Defence coach Andy Farrell, will be the first father-and-son to tour on the same British & Irish Lions tour.
