Alun Wyn Jones captain as Brian O'Driscoll dropped
Jul 03, 2013
The final test team has been announced to face Australia this coming Saturday. A very surprising selection from Gatland, with the inclusion of 10 Welsh players and the dropping of O'Driscoll from the team.
O'Driscoll wrote on Twitter: "Obviously totally gutted at being left out for deciding Test but all efforts go into preparing the boys to see it through."
Gatland said it was the first time a coach had dropped O'Driscoll in "15 years of rugby".
"It's not easy for that to be the first time but he is still going to be very important for us in the next 72 hours in terms of his experience and leadership," added Gatland.
"Brian was disappointed but he appreciated that he was spoken to before the team announcement.
"Jamie is back fit and has been given the nod because of his partnership with Davies."
Gatland, the Wales national coach has opted for 10 Welshman in the starting 15. With Wales history against Australia, we at Britishlions.com don't think this is the best idea. The Welsh boys have performed excellent on the tour so far, however the first 40 minutes of the game is where the confidence is won or lost and using more of the British & Irish players rather than just Welsh might give the Lions a stronger chance.
When it comes to the Lions, it is all Lions and individual nationality is no longer a factor, however dropping O'Driscoll and Youngs is probably not the best move by Gatland, who has managed very well on this tour so far. Hibbard selection is a big surprise as we haven't seen him get one line-out right this tour so far.
Lets hope Garland has got it right and the Lions take it to the Ozzys and show that the Lions and its legend will be around for many years to come. Roar on!
